Rock climbing is fun, physically and mentally challenging and a great group building activity. When thinking about adding a rock climbing wall to your building, the biggest question to ask yourself is - Do I have the space? Climbing walls take up volume. They are built on steel framing structures placed between the climbing wall and your facility wall; they will not sit flat up against your facility wall. Climbing walls should also articulate and overhange to provide interesting climbing terrain. These features also add volume to the wall. In addition, safety flooring is needed around the climbing wall. The industry recommends that at least six feet of safety flooring protrude out from the furthest part of your wall. So if you're thinking about adding a climbing wall - leave adequate space! If your facility is space constrained think about putting the wall outside or adding a climbing boulder.
