Dollhouse Dining Rooms

By: dolly c

The dining room is one of the most charming rooms in a dollhouse. It is one of the most life-like rooms because the furniture is easier to build and emulate than many other rooms. It is also a great place to display some classic dollhouse accessories, such as china and tea sets. When you choose your dollhouse set, keep in mind the different styles available to you, the dining room essentials you will need, and some extra furniture items that add a beautiful touch to the room.

Dining Room Styles

In many dollhouses, the dining room is one of the more elegant rooms. Dining rooms most commonly showcase a pretty wood color, such as mahogany, oak, or pecan; armchairs and high chairs with decorative backs and fabric seats, and a stylish china cabinet or hutch. However, dining rooms can have a more rustic look—for example, a table and benches made out of pine. Hand-painted dining room sets give a homey look. Victorian-style dining rooms are often beautifully ornate; more modern dining rooms showcase contemporary carvings in areas like the chair backs and legs of the table. Along with various shades of wood, dining rooms can also come in black, white, or other painted colors, or a mixture of painted colors and wood colors.

Dining Room Essentials

The most important—and biggest—item in the dining room is the table. Tables can be round, oval, or rectangular. Some tables are rectangular in shape but rounded at the corners. Most tables have four legs, but some rest on a pedestal in the center. Dining room chairs are the objects that lend the most variety to the living room. They often define the “color” of the living room by the shade of the seat cushion, and the decorations on the chair say a lot about the style of the room. Most dining rooms have either four chairs for smaller tables, or six chairs for larger tables, though some sets have eight. Usually, two of these chairs have armrests, though there are exceptions to this too: in some sets, all of the chairs have armrests; in others, none do. The final essential item in a dining room is a hutch. These come in a huge variety of styles: some look more like a huntboard, others look a lot like dressers, and others have cabinet space above that may or may not have doors. Some hutches include mirrors or beautiful handles. Some are large and rectangular, others are shaped like a book case, and some are built to fit into a corner.

Dining Room Extras

In addition to your table, chairs, and hutch, there are some fun furniture items you can add to your dining room if you have space. You can add a wash stand—a great option if you are designing and old-fashioned or Victorian-style house. You may also want to consider a silver chest or a tea cart. You can also add a china or curio cabinet—these usually have beautiful glass doors, sometimes with mirrors behind them. Pie safes are a fun addition. You can even add a wine rack to your dining room. Don’t forget that along with your beautiful furniture items you will want to add accessories: china and tea sets, candlesticks, chandeliers, paintings and mirrors, vases of flowers, and place settings are just a few of the possibilities.
