Facebook Gets Sophisticated & Oil Paintings Go Green

By: Amitai Sasson

The company's new application called, "My Art Gallery", allows Facebook members to load art reproductions of various pieces of art for sale on the OverstockArt.com website for free. Members can enjoy works from such notable artists as Van Gogh, Degas and Monet to name a few.

Like other businesses tapping into the youth markets through popular social websites like Facebook, OverstockArt.com is gearing its affordable products toward trend-savvy, post-college individuals who want to boost the atmosphere of their apartments and bachelor pads with real oil paintings.

"We think the younger market is a great place to pitch our oil paintings," said Amitai Sasson, OverstockArt.com's marketing director. "Young folks are becoming more and more trend-savvy these days and are also interested in loading cool applications to highlight their profiles on social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace."

OverstockArt.com's application allows members to choose as many paintings as they want from all the available oil paintings on their website. Members can also choose to invite friends and comment on their friend's galleries. A user can then sport his mood or taste by displaying his favorite art on his profile page, adding style and sophistication to an otherwise mundane profile.

"It's just a great way to show your love for arts and the great artists of the past", said Sasson. "It's also a way for the 'Thirty something' crowd to enjoy apps that they can relate to."

OverstockArt.com is pursuing the young trend savvy market by other means, not just the Social media network realm.

"Our research conducted showed an enormous increase in the importance of environmentally conscious consumers in this age group. That's why at OverstockArt.com we decided to take action and allow our customers to incorporate the industry's first eco-friendly frames, the perfect compliment to a nature lover's decor.

Combining bi-product materials like molding scraps and sawdust used in its production facility, the main frame supplier for the web-based company has successfully manufactured a completely recycled frame for all its products.

"We've been pursuing this for some time and we're very pleased to be offering this option to our customers," said Amitai Sasson, OverstockArt.com's marketing director.
Sasson believes his company is the first of its kind to offer a complete eco-friendly, recycled framing solution.

"From the research we've done, we're the only company in this industry doing this," he said. "The best part is that we are offering our customers not only a beautiful product, but also a way to take part in saving our planet and we feel great about it."

OverstockArt.com's marketing team is hoping the new eco-friendly package will attract a lot of attention and business from the growing base of consumers that appreciate green products and want to be apart of the solution to save our planet.
