How To Wash

By: Ben Needles

If youve never heard of a lace wig, youre not alone. In the past lace wigs were used mainly by actors and people who suffered from hair loss due to medical problems such as chemotherapy, alopecia or PCOS. But recently, celebrities like Beyonce and Tyra Banks are making lace wigs more widely popular. A lace wig is unlike any other wig. They are so realistic that you can be sitting right next to someone and not know they are wearing a wig.

A lace wig is built on a very sheer lace cap, and the key feature is that at the hairline, and when parted, a lace wig looks incredibly natural, as if the hair is growing right out of the scalp. The lace is adhered to your skin and disappears, you can even wear a lace with in a a high ponytail or up do!

Normally lace wigs can be worn for many weeks, and sometimes months at a time without removing or washing.

After wearing your lace wig for a few days or weeks, you may find your self needing to wash it. Try to wash your lace wig as infrequently as possible.

1. Fill your clean sink with luke-warm water (make sure there is absolutely no bleach or other harsh cleaning chemical residue in the sink)
2. Add a capful or less of gentle(human hair wig formulated) shampoo and dilute in the water. Never use regular shampoo on your wigs! If the wig has picked up the odor of smoke or other strong odors, you may add a teaspoon of baking soda to your basin, and blend in.
3. Gently swish the wig or piece in the water for about 30 seconds to a minute until the wig is saturated. Gently rub the front of the wig cap, where it meets the forehead until clean. And remember GENTLY GENTLY GENTLY!
4. Leave the wig soak in the wig sink for about 5 minutes
5. Empty the wig basin of water and rinse the wig or piece in cool water. It is very important to use cool water on curly wigs, as warm water will over-relax the curls of wigs.
6. Gently squeeze excess water out of wig. Do not rub or twist your wig.
7. Spread the wig out on a plastic wig stand and leave in a ventilated area to dry overnight. You should spray on a little leave-on wig conditioner, when you start the drying process. It is not recommended to blow dry your wig. Do not brush or style your wig while it is wet.
8. When the wig is entirely dry, re-style the wig gently. We recommend a wig pick or wide tooth comb. Bristle brushes, and roll brushes are not recommended.

HINTS:
Do not use regular shampoo/conditioner products. It is too strong for human hair wigs.

Make sure the products you use on your lace wig say somewhere on the bottle human hair wigs. If the product does not say anything about use on human hair wigs you should not use the product.

If your wig becomes damaged by using incorrect products, it may be possible to repair the damage, however it is likely that your lace wig is now ruined. If your human hair lace wig feels very dry after washing it, try wetting the lace wig with a water sprayer and lightly mist the hair. Then follow up with a silicone leave-in treatment and allow your lace wig to air dry.
