How to Do an Airbrush Tattoo

By: DanPartridge

Airbrush tattoos are popular, and creating them is easy if you know how.

Airbrush tattoos are growing in popularity these days; they have been doing so in the last two decades. If you are interested in temporary airbrush tattoos, you may give learning it a try and use it to start a business. It is not impossible for a well-run temporary tattoo studio to earn a good income.

But before you dream about the money that you can earn from doing temporary tattoos, you would need to learn how to do airbrush tattoos first. Here is a step-by-step guide to how it is done.

1. Get the right materials for the job. You would need to get the right airbrushing tools and supplies to get the job done. In doing temporary airbrush tattoos, the tools required are:

· A large needle airbrush that will keep the flow of paint going steady
· An air tank or compressor that will supply the airbrush with air
· Thick vinyl stencils for drawing
· Cotton swabs for removing excess oil from the skin
· Baby powder to help dry the ink after the tattooing

2. Priming. So you would not botch your temporary tattoo in the midst of getting it done, you would need to make sure that your airbrush is working properly. Fill the jars with the paints that you need and have your other tools and supplies ready before you start with your work.

3. Clean the skin. Before you start painting, clean the skin that you would be tattooing with your cotton swabs. Skin oil, lotions, dirt, grit and any other substances on the skin can prevent the tattoo paint from sticking on the skin. Let the skin dry first before you start applying paint.

4. Stencilling. After the skin that you would be working on has dried, apply the stencil over it and make sure to hold it firmly there. Stencilling is necessary so that the end result of the tattooing is nice and clean.

5. Light colours first. If you are going to paint a tattoo design that involves multiple colours, always start with the lightest colours first, then gradually going darker. Also, apply the light-coloured paints more thickly than the darker ones so they would stand out. The reason for this is that light colours do not show over dark colours, but dark colours do so over the light ones.

6. Light coats. If you need to apply the paints thickly, apply in light coats. Putting the paint on in just one go will cause the paint to smudge and run.

7. Blending. Upon finishing the basic drawing of the airbrush tattoo, blend in around the edges to make the tattoo look more even. Do the blending lightly.

8. Let it dry. After the tattooing is done, take the stencil off the skin by peeling it slowly. Afterwards, apply some baby powder on it so it dries more easily. The baby powder will protect the tattoo as well whilst it dries.

Doing an airbrush tattoo is easy, and learning more of how it is done is not difficult at all. You can earn a good amount of money with doing temporary airbrush tattoos.
