Website maintenance means revising, editing and changing certain existing web pages to keep your website up-to-date. The additions of new pages also come within the purview of web maintenance. Website visitors, customers often need a response to their questions, comments or suggestions. It can be about your product, service or technical issues. All these customer care services and data management is also part of website maintenance. To keep your site online, you have to pay your monthly hosting fee and annual domain name renewal. Websites are not intended to be static; you have to change it periodically to reflect new products or new developments in your business. You can add new contents and at the same time, you can launch new campaigns. If you can maintain your site yourself or if you think, your site needs no updating, then you don’t have to pay any maintenance charges. If you decide to have someone else maintain, update your site, you have to pay him/her hourly. The only way to get a good estimate for your site is to define what you need to do in your website. Costs for maintaining a website varies due to many factors. 1. Frequency of making changes in your site 2. Adding new products or services 3. Adding new pages 4. Frequency of indexing Changes are very much important to a website. They keep a page fresh. Putting new products or services or information on the web page always attracts web visitors. You may consider two solutions through which you can minimize the maintenance cost. One is- you should have a good maintenance plan included in the agreement with your web designer, so that the designer can do minor changes. Check with your web designer or developer if they can perform it economically. The other solution is train some one in your organization to be able to work with an html editor. Some one who knows normal word processing programs can learn how to modify texts and upload files to the server. You or your staff can learn the maintenance work by reading online tutorials, e-books etc. Though it consumes some time, it gives you flexibility and an ability to work at your own pace and within your budget.
